Sharing Love with the World - Understanding Mental Health

"Make your Mental Health a priority"
All the topics you shy away from, today, let’s talk about them. Coming straight to the point, the most important and crucial among them is Mental Health. Let’s spread awareness and try to reduce the stigma around it. Let’s motivate each other and peers to change the way we look at Mental Health concerns.

We care about our loved ones, we love them and we promise them a life without obstacles. At least we try to do that. But somehow, when it comes to support and understand the emotional outburst and a different but regular pattern of mood swings taking shape, we are not well-aware of the steps to be taken. We go haywire when a person is behaving a little different or is trying to suppress emotions. We don’t know exactly how to support them.

Most common questions we throw at people who for once try to come out and share their mental state –

What is the main problem?
What tragedy has stuck upon you?
You’re a happy soul, this cannot happen to you!?
Everybody is having their share of issues in life, why are you overreacting? etc, etc.

Well, this is pure ignorance of what Mental Health conditions are all about. If you think the same, you really need to read and know about it. An always laughing and smiling person can also be the one suffering from depression and anxiety. A tragedy is not mandatory. It is all just a matter of how you deal with the problems in your life. For example, the impact of losing a loved one is devastating. However, some people might take months to come out of the grief while some leave an empty space for forever!
"Mental Health begins with me"
In our times, Mental Health is one of the most misunderstood concerns. Lack of awareness about it, lack of drive to gain knowledge due to the stigma around it has led to too many people hiding. Feared by society, getting judged, or fear of becoming the topic of the town are some of the major issues why people suffering from the problem are not able to come out and express.

Majorly, there are 3 types of mental health concerns -

Stress, Anxiety, and Depression

Let’s understand the difference between Stress, Anxiety, and Depression first –

Stress has become a by-product of the lifestyle we’re living today. Yet, it is not something to be taken lightly. Prolonged stress can cause diabetes, heart disease, and might turn into bigger mental health problems. However, stress can be managed with knowledge and a few changes in the lifestyle.

Anxiety is a word given to a level higher from stress disorders. If you feel nervous, worried, fearful, uneasy, then it is anxiety. However, you must keep a check on your life if severe anxiety persists. It can have a serious impact on your daily routine.

Depression is a major problem, cannot be taken lightly at all. The World Health Organization exemplifies Depression as one of the most halting disorders in the world. However, with the right kind of support and medication, one can get it treated under manageable conditions. You just have to involve the right action and work on the knowledge part.
