Tulsi Too Has A Mythology !

Tulsi is regarded as a sacred plant in Hindu mythology. The plant leaves are considered very important in the procedure of offerings to Lord Vishnu. The plant symbolizes Goddess Tulsi who was the great worshipper of the Lord Vishnu. It also comes handy in Ayurveda medication and homemade tricks.

There are many names given to basil leaves according to their contextual meaning and types :

• Tulsi – one who is matchless.
• Vaishnavi – one who belongs to Lord Vishnu.
• Vishnu Tulsi – Beloved of Vishnu.
• Haripriya – One who is beloved.
• Shri- Tulsi – One who is fortunate. Shri is the other name of Goddess Laxmi too.
• Rama- Tulsi – Bright leaves. Symbolizing Lord Rama.
• Shyama Tulsi or Krishna Tulsi – Dark green or purple leaves. Symbolizing Lord Krishna.

Wondered Why One Put Tulsi In The Mouth Of A Dying Person?

Traditionally, one puts basil leaves in the mouth of a dying person with the faith that the person will reach heaven afterlife. Basil leaves are considered pure and the manifestation of Goddess Tulsi.

Scientifically, basil leaves protect the body from decaying too soon. That is why it is put in the mouth of a dying person.

Religiously or scientifically, Tulsi proved to be very significant. If one is cremated with a Tulsi stem, the person is said to attain moksha and a place near Lord Vishnu.

Spiritual Regard

It is considered that all pilgrimages, all devtas, all deities reside in the stems, roots and branches of the Tulsi plant. It is the holiest plant in the world.

A person who waters it daily and takes care of the plant is said to be the deserver of salvation (moksha) in the divine grace of Lord Vishnu.

Lighting a lamp for Lord Vishnu from Tulsi stick is like offering lakh lamps to God.

Worshipping Lord Vishnu after smearing the paste of dried Tulsi is equal to doing millions of pooja and godaans. Godaan is basically the donation of cows.

Several people wear Tulsi malas. It is made of Tulsi leaves and stems. There are Japa Malas too, which are used to chant mantras and used as a rosary. Tulsi mala is a beautiful garland which can be worn in the neck. It symbolizes the connection between human and Lord Vishnu. Wearing Tulsi Mala is auspicious for the wearer.
